Dance theory in Polish practice

We invite you to "Thursday talks about dancing" on November 8 at 18.00 for discussion with Hanna Raszewska-Kursa, author of the book "Dance theory in Polish practice".

It’s a series of public talks, which cover the subject of the most important issues related to choreographic space in the context of the experiment. We want to open a friendly and productive space for conducting dialogue with artists, viewers, critics and curators. We want to co-create a discourse on dance, new and old choreography. We refer to the idea of discussion clubs, and in the depths of history - to Thursday’s dinners (meetings of artists, intellectuals, architects, politicians and statesmen held by the last King of Poland, Stanisław II August in the era of Enlightenment). Pedagogy of the theater (including dance) devotes a lot of attention to the issues of reception of the play, so we want to familiarize people with the dance related space, so that the audience feel safe in it, in order to experience and discover new intellectual areas. Preparing the meetings we will explore various formulas: from panel discussions, lectures, lecture performances, multimedia presentations to talks about books.

About the book from the author:

"Choreologists as well as critics are recognized by the titles of their works, their biographies are rarely known by others. Curators, managers, producers, organizers are usually in the backstage, often they do not notice their work - and sometimes it is precisely its proper execution. It is important to recognize the work of people supporting the dance and choreography scene, documenting, analyzing, popularizing and stimulating its development.

The art of dance not only serves to enrich the emotional and intellectual experiences of the audience, it is not only an artistic statement of the creator but also an object of advanced scientific research, analytical and critical works. Dance and choreography are often perceived as a trifle, while it is a field of art of significant importance, bringing with it a knowledge about man and culture in which he functions and which he creates. I want to popularize knowledge about the achievements of people who rendered merit to Polish dance knowledge and make it easier to reach out to it. "
