The play, based on Bruno Schulz's short stories, invites you to the abandoned and strange space-time of the Hourglass Sanatorium. The residents are subjected to a peculiar treatment: turning back time by one interval causes people, considered dead in the real world, to persist in suspension, stopping at the border between life and death. The authors of "The Republic of Dreams" construct from ephemeral visions, governed by the logic of dreams, an illusory world in which every desire can still come true. Using the poetic word as an impetus for creating movement, and painting with light in the "mysterious fluid of darkness," they debunk the myth of Schulz's prose as inaccessible to the theater.
The premiere of the performance "Republic of Dreams" is part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary season at the Polish Dance Theater, which will last until the end of June 2024.
Strobe effects are used during the performance, which can trigger epileptic attacks in people sensitive to flashing lights. Smoke and artificial fogs are used during the performance. People with asthma or breathing problems are asked to exercise caution.
