Among the whole bunch, there was no mercy. "The Ballad of the Orphan".

The first and last frame of the short film Bronze is filled with Zofia Stryjeńska's painting "Seasons. November - December (Korowodód I - with a deer)," growing out of her inspiration from Polish and Hutsul folk culture. The dynamics of the boiling canvas, which is the quintessential decorative style in Polish twentieth-century painting, prompts the artist to set the action in motion, awaken the flat composition, and introduce lively movement.

The film's director, Iwona Pasinska, treated the painterly shot - a procession of figures shimmering with all colors - as an impulse to compose choreography and build successive scenes, making up a metaphor of life in a collective, moving along the lifeline, experiencing good and evil, happiness and pain, the unchanging rhythm of nature and the changing turns of fate. The two worlds - the individual one and the community one - are separated by an invisible border. Because the community under the fabulously colorful and ludic mask of customs, traditions and rituals hides another face. It throws to the margin, "gnaws" and rejects.

The visual layer of the 9-minute film is co-created by ornamental motifs taken from Stryjeńska's paintings. The fragmentary narrative is built up by the words of traditional songs arranged and performed by the Malisz Band, which are superimposed on the language of modern dance. The cross-genre combination of dance film and painting makes the second ever film production by the Polish Dance Theater an interdisciplinary experiment from the borderline of the arts.
