On May 2, 3 and 4, 2024, the Polish Dance Theater presented a performance"24/7 New Sins" at Leipzig's Das Loft Theatre. The performance was part of the project "Dance Odysseys. Polish Dance Theater's Tour of the World's Scenes," which aims to promote Polish culture through notable international cultural projects. This was one of the first presentations of this work outside Poland, following its premiere in Poznań on April 23, 2024, which was held as part of the theater's 50th anniversary celebrations.
The performance, directed and choreographed by Yoshiko Waki, is the fourth co-production of the Polish Dance Theater with the German bodytalk collective. It touches on contemporary sins and the impact of technology on human life, provoking audiences to reflect on the human condition in the digital age. The performance in Leipzig was enthusiastically received, and audiences appreciated the innovative combination of dance, music and modern technology, as well as the show's profound message, prompting reflections on the moral challenges of modern times.
Das Loft Theatre in Leipzig, the venue for the show, is a space of unique character, known for promoting modern and experimental forms of stage art. The industrial interior, combining austerity with flexible arrangements, is ideally suited to the atmosphere of works that address current issues and challenges. Das Loft attracts local artists and international theater companies, becoming a place for artistic dialogue and cross-cultural exchange. The Polish Dance Theater had the honor of performing in South Korea as part of an extraordinary tour that included performances in Seoul, Daegu and Cheonan. This unique event took place as part of the project "Dance Odysseys. Polish Dance Theater's Tour of the World's Scenes," aimed at presenting and promoting Polish culture on the international art scene.
During the tour, the Polish company presented three extraordinary productions: "45" by Jacek Przybyłowicz, "Harvest" directed by Igor Gorzkowski and choreographed by Iwona Pasińska, and "Out of the Hat" directed and choreographed by Jo Stromgren. Each of these performances provided a unique artistic experience, reflecting diverse approaches to the art of dance and showcasing Poland's rich culture.
The tour began with the performance "45" dir. Jacek Przybyłowicz in Seoul, onSeptember 8, 2024, where the company demonstrated its skills on the city's prestigious stages, including the Korea Dance Festival. This festival is one of the most important events in the Korean calendar, bringing together the best dancers and choreographers from around the world. It is a unique opportunity for artists to exchange experiences and make new international contacts.
Following September 11, 2024, the team traveled to Daegu, where they presented their performances at the Daegu International Dance Festival. This dynamic city is known for its strong theatrical and artistic tradition, and the festival is a key event that brings together talented artists from different countries, allowing them to share their skills and experiences. The Daegu tour is another extraordinary opportunity to promote Polish dance and culture in the heart of Korea.
The final stop was Cheonan, where Polish Dance Theater performed at the Cheonan Art Center on September 28, 2024. The city is known for its openness to art and culture, and the space offers a platform for exploring new forms of artistic expression. This was an important step in building long-term relationships with local artists and international audiences.
The Polish Dance Theater's tour of South Korea was not only an opportunity to present exceptional performances, but also an integral part of a broader project that aims to create lasting cultural and artistic relationships on the international stage.
