.Drawing on a variety of forms of expression, from cartoon to die-cut, patchwork and cartoon, "Historiae vivae" resurrects the unique atmosphere of silent cinema. Imbued with the warmth exuded by body language, and at the same time made unreal by the black and white tonality, these "splatters of everyday life" allow us to take a trip back in time.
A journey to the beginnings of cinema, into which we are drawn by the use of historical filming methods, the use of stylish frames or, so characteristic of black-and-white films, the text board. And music performed live by a tapper, as if in an old cinema improvising live sound for the scenes being shown.
"Historia vivae" are also a journey to the second half of the 20th century, as seen in the graceful references to fashion, customs or popular ballroom dances. The patina of antiquity, evident in form and content, makes us watch the "vivae histories" as if from a distance, a remoteness, though at the same time with the awareness that they could happen both in the past, in the present and in the future. We watch with attention, a desire to stop the rapidly passing moment, with amusement that is aroused by the comedy of the situation, with tenderness for human ridicule.
The essence of silent cinema was the use of gesture and mimicry as means of expression. "Historiae vivae" draws on this source, telling in a light and humorous way about ordinary things that become extraordinary thanks to the magic of the silver screen.
