Polish Dance Theater's 2022 choreographic film project "The Beast" won an honorable mention at the Dare to Dance in Public Film Festival in Los Angeles, USA.
Directed within the human-animal idiom, it seeks to answer the question of which species is the top predator. The film is entirely monochromatic. The costumes refer to the current situation in the world - they are winter camouflage costumes, which were donated to the Ukrainian army after the project was completed. The premiere of "The Beast" took place in 2022, on Christmas Eve, when, according to legend, animals speak with a human voice.
Since its inception, Dare to Dance in Public Festival has aimed to explore unusual spaces for dance. "The Beast" is an excellent example of an unusual location for movement action, which takes place in the Greater Poland village of Komorowo. The idyllic landscape of fields, meadows and an old sheepfold provides a perverse backdrop for the story of human-animal relations.
The films selected and awarded by the jury - among them "The Beast" - will be presented on October 21, 2023 at the New Glorya Kaufman Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles.
