We begin the presentation of the ensembles and performances that will be seen at the headquarters of the Polish Dance Theater during the April Festival | Festival "Borders of Nature - Borders of Culture".

Sibiu Ballet Theatre will perform in Poland for the first time ever. It will also be the only opportunity this year to see a performance by this group. April 25 at 8:00 pm they will perform a performance of One way ticket, which will be presented in Poznan fresh from its premiere!

Sandra Mavhima, the creator of the choreography for the performance, talks about One way ticket this way:

"Millions of emigrants from the former communist countries of Eastern Europe, enchanted by the mirage of a better life, arrive in the West every year in search of a decent future. One Way Ticket is the story of all those who left their families and headed from the East - the Balkans - to the West. For many of them, the great cultural differences, the harshness and rigidity of their new communities make the process of integration almost impossible, and many of those who have left are trapped between two realities: a native country to which they no longer feel a sense of belonging, and an adopted country in which they may never fully assimilate. One way ticket is a choreographic essay about roots and uprooting. About encounters and loneliness."

Sibiu Ballet Theatre will also perform on April 26, but it will be a closed performance.

About Sibiu Ballet Theatre (Teatrul de Balet Sibiu / TBS):

.

Sibiu Ballet Theatre (Teatrul de Balet Sibiu / TBS) was established in 2008 from the corps de ballet Sibiu House of Culture - an institution under the Sibiu Local Council and Sibiu City Hall. In the year of its inception, SBT had only ten dancers; today there are 38 members, coming from Romania, but also from New Zealand, Australia, USA, Canada, Japan, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Cuba, Portugal, Spain, Italy, UK, France and Ukraine. Sibiu Ballet Theatre is the first international ballet company in Romania - a model later adopted by other Romanian ballet companies.

What sets Sibiu Ballet Theatre apart from Romanian companies is not only its international company of male and female dancers, but also its repertoire, which focuses not only on classical ballet, but also includes productions of modern dance and neoclassical ballet. What's more, Sibiu Ballet Theatre is the only dance company in Romania that expands its repertoire with five new premieres each year. SBT's repertoire includes major titles from the classical choreographic repertoire: "Swan Lake," "The Ill-Begotten Daughter," "The Corsair," "Don Quixote," "Coppelia," "The Sleeping Beauty," "Romeo and Juliet," "Giselle," "The Nutcracker," "Raimonda," "Scheherazade," "Paquita," "Chopiniana," "Bayadera," and "Arlekinada."

Among all of the neoclassical choreographic repertoire, the SBT's repertoire includes the following.

Among all the neoclassical and contemporary choreography that SBT has in its repertoire are: "I'm a Communist Biddy!" - a performance inspired by the novel of the same name by Dan Lungu (the novel has been translated into at least ten languages - in the Polish version: "I'm a Communist Biddy!"), "Check, Please!", "Impetus", "Missa Prophana", "Seasons", "The Miraculous Mandarin", "City Beat", "The Ionesco Trilogy" (SBT is the only dance company in Romania whose repertoire includes a performance inspired by the works of Eugen Ionesco), "Nikita" (inspired by the poetry of Nichita Stănescu), "Peer Gynt", "Class Concert", "Senses", "Einstein", "Tristan and Isolda.Freedom.Straussiana", "When in Darkness", "Bolero", "Soft Power''

.

Another goal that SBT has been pursuing for more than a dozen years is to engage new generations of dancers. Beginning in 2008, SBT has organized the "International Classical and Contemporary Dance Competition" in Sibiu. - an event in which more than 200 people from all over the world participate every year, and important figures of international dance sit on the jury and perform on stage.
