The jury's recognition was due to the work of the team co-creating this unique book:
.Ryszard Bienert (design and layout),
.Andrzej Grabowski (photographs)
.DRUKMANIA Printing House (printing)
.Polish Dance Theater (concept of the publication).
Without a shadow of exaggeration, we can say that we broke a record. Because it was only the second time in history that the Jury of the Most Beautiful Books of the Year Competition awarded the Grand Prix, and it was to our publishing house - the anniversary publication "Live record / Live captured", prepared for the 50th anniversary of the Polish Dance Theater.
"The publication is an excellent example that a jubilee publication can be designed and realized in a delightfully modern way...The whole publication ripples in the hands, dances lightly, also the photographs of dancers printed on the edges of the book come to life in motion...it is fascinating, engaging and coherent...the simplicity of the materials brings out the nobility of the graphic solutions". - reads the laudation.
The Polish Society of Book Publishers (PTWK) competition is the oldest in Poland, opening the way for Polish books at the highest editorial level to museums and galleries and to participate in competitions around the world.
Publications awarded and honored in this competition are presented to an international audience. They take part in prestigious events, such as the Best Book Design from all over the World competition in Leipzig, winning more awards abroad.
They are also presented to the public.
This was the case in 2021 with another Polish Dance Theater publication, "Natural Histories," which began its journey around the world with an honorable mention in the 61st PTWK "Most Beautiful Books of the Year" competition, and then received a Bronze Medal in the Best Book Design from all over the World competition.
Thanks to the distinction in Leipzig, "Natural Histories" has been included in exhibitions in countries around the world: the Weltformat Graphic Design Festival in Lucerne, the German Museum of Books and Writing in Leipzig, the Museum of Design and Applied Art in Garðabær, Iceland, and the Printing Museum in Tokyo.
."Live record / Live captured" is a publication that accompanies the Polish Dance Theater's 2023/2024 anniversary season. The publication consists of two volumes. One is an artistically processed study of body and movement, the other documents in words and images the "live" - because recorded in the subjective experience of participants in events - history of the Polish Dance Theater. The monumental photographic part, which is filled with 3600 photos, is a pictorial impression on the birth and evolution of bodily expression and the composition and decomposition of movement, inspired by its various forms, from the Olympic Games to dance theater.
