On September 22, at 7 p.m., at the Performing Arts Center "Bakery" in Wroclaw, the Polish Dance Theater will give a guest performance during the DANCE Art Spaces Festival.

For the first time this season, we will present the performance "Romeos&Julias unplagued. Traumstadt" co-produced with bodytalk, an artistic collective founded by director Rolf Baumgart and choreographer Yoshiko Waki, formerly a member of Johann Kresnik Choreographic Theater, famous for operating with strong, almost provocative means of expression.

The performance "Romeos&Julias unplagued. Traumstadt", whose choreography is built on a liberating, almost ecstatic dance. Building an analogy between the coronavirus epidemic and the plagues of the Renaissance, it tells the story of Romeo and Juliet in several different ways, juxtaposing the need for closeness with the compulsion of social distance. Like all performances by the bodytalk collective, "Romeos&Julias unplagued. Traumstadt" is accompanied by live music - its author is Damian Pielka - a multi-instrumentalist and composer.

The show premiered at the Malta Festival Poznań 2021, with the German premiere taking place on July 7 and 8, 2021 at the Uferstudios in Berlin. In Germany, the play was presented at the Asphalt Festival in Düsseldorf, at the TanzFaktur in Cologne and at the Pumpenhaus Theater in Münster. The play also received one of the most important theater awards in Poland. During the 26th Shakespeare Festival in Gdansk, it was awarded the Golden Yorick Prize - the top prize in the competition for the best Polish staging of William Shakespeare's dramatic works and works inspired by the works of William Shakespeare.

The DANCE ART FESTIVAL is implemented within the framework of the program of the same name, which was born out of the need to support and provide working conditions for artists without a permanent venue. The operators of the program in 2023 are the Kielce Dance Theater and Cultural Center in Lublin, Henryk Tomaszewski Pantomime Theater in Wroclaw, the Foundation for the Development of Dance Art, the Bialystok Puppet Theater and the Bialystok Cultural Center, as well as the Institute of Urban Culture in Gdansk, with adequate infrastructure to provide dance artists with space for creative activity.

The program of the DANCE Art Spaces Festival includes theatrical premieres, guest performances - among them the Polish Dance Theater - workshops or dance cinema.

The project is financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage within the framework of the Spaces of Art Program, implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance and the Zbigniew Raszewski Theater Institute, as well as from the budget of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.
